Her grandfather inherited her eventual upright Ronisch piano back in the early years of the 20th century. It was much-used by him and my grandmother, and then by Chrisy while learning to play. Granna died, the piano was donated to the Wayside Chapel. Then one day a newspaper article said there had been a fire at the Chapel, and there was our beloved piano now just a burnt-out frame.

I still play my grandmother’s piano which she was given in 1900 by her father. It was given to him to repay a debt!

My father swapped a horse for our piano back in the 1940s. My three sisters, my brother and myself all played it. It’s now on display at the Townsville Maritime Museum.
